PHOTON DROP stands for PHOTOlatent N-heterocyclic carbenes for Delayed Ring-Opening Polymerization. This is a research project aiming at develloping chemical compounds able to generate N-Heterocyclic Carbenes under UV-irradiation for a use in photopolymerization. Several applications are targeted, such as the development of new coatings and adhesives or the fabrication of objects by stereolithography.

This is a 42 months collaborative project implicating 3 academic partners: the Institute Charles Gerhardt of Montpellier (ICGM) from University of Montpellier, the Institute for Material Science of Mulhouse (IS2M) from University of Haute Alsace and the Laboratoire de Chimie des Polymères Organiques (LCPO) from University of Bordeaux. The project is funded by ANR (Agence Nationale de la Recherche) for 42 months and started in October 2016.
